Default 2 weeks with Windows phone 6.5 and the HTC Pure

Stephen Borders at Mobility site has been testing the HTC pure with Windows phone 6.5 for 2 weeks and has written a nice article about it, a short quote and a link to the full article can be found below.

Quote:
I have been privileged to have the HTC Pure from at&t for a couple of weeks and it has provided me with two new experiences. The opportunity to used some updated hardware and to use the latest version of Windows Mobile or as it is now called Windows Phone. Both have been an enjoyable experience. So I wanted to post some final thoughts on both and I encourage you the reader to post your thoughts in the comment section as well.

As each day goes by I find I am reaching less and less for my tilt. The Tilt is by no means a bad device, in fact it got very good reviews when it was released. But the Pure looks better, runs faster and feels better in the hand. The screen is the best I have seen and is visible in sunlight and with the light sensor the screen is always bright enough. The only reasons I grab the tilt is when it rings or to answer an email that is longer than a couple of words. I just can’t get good at the virtual keyboard. My wife on the other hand answered a message for me while we were in the car and she had no trouble typing on it and she uses a Treo 750 which has an excellent keyboard. She does however have much smaller fingers and pointy fingernails which are more precise at touching the resistive screen than my fat mechanics thumbs. It fits nicely in the pocket without being heavy and I am impressed by the call quality and signal lock. As I mentioned in my review here the indicated signal is the same as on my tilt but I can have a clear conversation in my office without a problem.

Default Steve Ballmer

No matter what you think of Windows Phone 6.5, Steve Ballmer himself said that Microsoft hasn't invested enough the past years in the system and that 6.5 is far behind of it's competitors.
So why buy a 6.5 mobile phone, when you know Microsoft isn't happy with the system and that they are working very very hard to get back in the game with Windows Phone 7.

I'm was thinking about buying HTC HD2, but I'll just wait until they release a good version of Mobile 7 and continue to use a XDA version of 6.5 on my HTC Kaiser.

I think that after the IPhone and the Android, Microsoft finally had wake up to the life. They are trying to make a OS that is so touch friendly as is competitors. But in a Portuguese Magazine, In a question to Mr Jacques-Etienne Grandjean, Microsoft Director for Telecom in Western Europe they asked if the fact of if some manufactures had the choise of choosing a OS free or paying for the Microsoft OS, Microsoft had the chance of loosing that manufactures. Simple answer: Talk about the Apple way of selling ther OS and the updates...

Default Windows Phone 6.5.1

I have been using my AT&T Fuze for about eight months now. It is not the perfect phone, but it is a great handheld device.

Both my daughter and son-in-law have iPhones and I have spent quite a bit of time playing with her phone. At first, the finger friendly interface was VERY compelling, especially when I was unfamiliar with the original WinMo 6.1 interface and Touchflow 3D 1.

Since then however, I have flashed MANY 6.5 ROMs from the XDA chefs, used TF3D2, and experienced the development of the Windows Phone interface first hand. There have been many improvements from both HTC and Microsoft. I know, some say MS is not really interested in developing their phone market, but I don’t see it that way. The improvement in a finger friendly interface is phenomenal in the short time I have had my Fuze. I have used WinMo devices for years, which is why I chose the Fuze in the first place when I upgraded to the level of the ‘Smart Phone’, and I will have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the original 6.1 interface from AT&T and dazzled with my daughters iPhone, but when I got used to the TF3D interface and could find my way around the WinMo phone, it started to be fun to play with the device.

On the other hand, once navigating the Fuze was mastered, the limitations of the iPhone became obvious. Yes, it is finger friendly, but if there isn’t a button for it, you can’t do it. Without hooking it to a computer all you can do is push buttons. It is great for the non-tech person who is only interested in a phone with cute apps, but for ones who want a real hand-held computer, the iPhone is very disappointing.

The inability to use a stylus with the capacitive touch screen of the iPhone limits what can be done, even on the larger screen. For fat fingered people, the virtual keyboard is unworkable. The Fuze, with its hardware keyboard, stylus friendly screen and real software KEYBOARD with a number row and Ctl key, make accurate typing very doable, even for the ham handed.

Now, with Windows Phone 6.5, many things can be done on the touch screen even with fat fingers. The larger buttons and thoughtfully laid out menus allow real work to be done without using the stylus.

HTC and Microsoft are heading in the right direction with Windows Phone and the improvements that are being developed with 6.5 assure us that we will not be disappointed when Windows Phone 7 hits the streets.
