Default Android on CDMA, can I switch carriers?

Not sure where else to ask but I was wondering if I could get a good answer on this. To the best of my knowledge, all CDMA hardware in the US is the same. Verizon and Sprint phones to date cannot be used outside of their native carrier. I was told that the software is the limitation. Since Android is now the common denominator, it is feasible to think that we will be able to activate verizon phones on sprint and vice versa. Im moving from ATT to Sprint but see some nice Verizon phones on the near horizon. Thanks.

you can switch from sprint to verizon just like you can from att to tmobile..

you'll get the voice network no problem, it's just that sometimes with the 3g/evdo they run on difference frequencies so you generally don't get their high speed internet

you also have to get the msl info to switch it over

thanks for the response. in saying that, is the hardware different? all my googling shows what they are the same hardware (frequency wise) but the software is different. so would it be possible for a dev to make the neccessary changes to use a phone on either verizon/sprint?

Its possible to do but the issue is getting everything and registered to work on the other carrier. Usually voice is not an issue its other things like data, mms or sms that can have issues.

The bottom line on this is you are going against the grain of what everyone else does so you can't expect to get much help from the carrier (the big 3).

If Verizon lets you. You would have to ask them to add your phone to their service. Any reason why you would though? If you're joining Verizon just get the Eris, or wait another month for the Dragon/Passion.

Default Verizib Customer Techical Support Helpful

I just did the Alltel to Verizon shuffle with my PPC6800. They reprogrammed the carrier over the air. This messed up my various MSL settings and was generally a PITA. I got into Tech Support and whines (being a girl helps) and they tried getting me different numbers until it all worked fine. I also needed to add a phone line while Alltel since I am waiting for a new phone. I bought one at Mal*Wart for Alltel. They tried again to program it OTA when the switch was made. Rinse repeat but again customer tech support (NOT the billing people) found more magic super double secret numbers and got both instruments working. If the hardware is the same they can fix it ALL through Tech Support over the air- just beg.

I work for Verizon and YES you can use another CDMA's carrier on Verizon. As far as using a VZW phone on Sprint, unless you know someone that can reprogram it, it's not gonna happen. I USE to work for Sprint and they have this "if it doesn't say Sprint, we won't allow it" policy.

Verizon has a request sheet if you want to use your CDMA phone on verizon. You have to fill it out and send it in with your phone. They say it takes a few weeks to get it back all programmed for VZW. I've never tried it but I know people have done it. They usually program phones that they already carry, like Sprint Touch Pro to Verizon Touch Pro.. all they did was flash the rom for Verizon and etc. I uploaded the form on here somewhere.

Hope this helps
