how do i make the font under the icons on my home screen smaller? or just remove the words altogether? i have bettercut if that matters. or are there any other apps that can do it?

you can remove the text under the home screen icons with the advanced launcher.

there is an advanced launcher app in the market that you do not have to be rooted to use. it is a home replacement app so it has some lag, but if you have root, then you can replace the Launcher.apk with the advanced launcher and it will run faster.
