Smile Need an Android Developer (ideally based in North Carolina)

I'm posting here instead of the Marketplace because this seemed like a better spot. I have a paid consulting gig that should be pretty straightforward for the right candidate.

If you have experience developing apps/drivers for android that interface with hardware, particularly sensors, you're probably the right guy or gal.

Specifically, we need

1. General guidance/background on interfacing with hardware.
2. A couple of bare-bones example application(s) that access sensors
3. Some hand-holding through getting a dev environment set up to compile and test the applications.

You'll be working with a dev who does _not_ have Android experience but has 10+ years of building products and is very capable.

There are a number of other tasks that could follow if all goes well.

This is a paid gig starting in January and we'll pay reasonable rates for the work. The ideal candidate would be based in North Carolina (doesn't matter where), but being elsewhere isn't a deal-breaker.

If you're interested, send me an email or pm.

Thanks.

I doubt any dev is gonna do any hand holding to help set everything up when all the info is available to accomplish everything your asking for.

Thanks for the insight there, bucko. Very helpful. Reminds me of the good old days of Usenet, and apparently you are "that guy" from back then.

Good to know you're still breathing and keeping the net safe for all the real coders out there...

It may be weird for you to hear this, but there's a thing called convenience that can come in to play on a funded project, and some crazy people, myself included, will pay for it.

Yes, I know, you're recoiling in horror at the very idea. I mean surely any dev worth a damn should, on principle, do everything themselves from scratch. Heck, we shouldn't even be developing for Android -- using any existing hardware/OS is just wussing out. We should design our own hardware from scratch with a 64bit, no, 128bit OS built on the ideals of Groovy, but re-written in our own image.

I appreciate that someone such as yourself would never soil yourself with making some pretty easy cash, but since (a) we're in a rush and (b) we're willing to pay a good rate, I would hope others might disagree.

Still, thanks for keeping the "I'm smarter than you and need to show it" flame alive, and simultaneously reminding me why I don't usually bother with this kind of open post. Bless you, wherever you may lurk.

And no, I'm not going to respond to any other helpful comments you might offer, so don't waste your breath.

Wow I just gave you an up front no bs answer and you go on to rant. Did I ever say I'm smarter than you, did I give you some kind of smart ass answer? No, I just gave you some real info. And by the looks of it no one else responded, it looks like my answer was 100% correct. I know your not going to respond now. You sir have a wonderful day.

The whole point of a developer is to do exactly what you claim they refuse to do, infact there is a whole industry based on "hand holding to help set everything up" its called consultancy lol

I guess I'm not very knowledgeable, but again I didn't agree to help him in anyway. And your statements don't make any sense. You said does Bill Gates know how to code. And you even wanted to throw in the ol lol. Really, I guess you don't need to know anything to start up Microsoft. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2001/05...es_write_code/. Next time use a better example. O and since you know so much, how bout you spell "rooted" right in your sig. That will be a good start.
