headphone adapter and charge?

ok so ive searched and some say it works some say it doesnt but lets start with:

i need to be able to use a 4-pole headphone (stereo headphone and mic) as well as charge the device at one so my two options are

the htc 3-in-1

or.....make my own?

or....perhaps just add a 4pole connector and wire it up with this

You may want to take a look at the USB adapter that comes with the HTC Pure. If I remember correctly it comes with a connector that allows you to charge the phone while using the headphone jack. The connector will probably work fine on the sapphire.
