i780 WM upgrade query

Hey guys, really been enjoying the forum. Spent all of time reading so far. Now it's time to act.

Going to upgrade my Samsung i780 with this rom SGH-i780 WM 6.5.3 WWE PRE-RELEASE from heineken78.

Hit the first possible snag which I am sure someone here can help me with.

Trying to upgrade first to PDXIB1, but the installer says I have the incorrect software version.

PDA : i780JCHC2
Phone : i780JCHC2

How would I get my version to a version that can be updated. had a seach in the forums for my version number, came up empty. Mustn't be too many people South Africa on here then

Well got I sorted, I bypassed the step to update to PDXIB1 and just flashed it with WM6.5 works perfectly.

Be interested to know exactly how you did that. I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to upgrade to PDXIB1 as well.

Now tried going straight to this pre-release but keep getting "Emergency Mode - You must push detect button...before you connect the USB port". I have hit detect but as soon as the phone switches on Mirage simply says "PDA device not found".

I haven't got an XP machine and cannot download XP mode. I can run Vista or Win 7. I haven't found usb drivers for Win 7. I assume this is the problem.

I really want to get rid of the Orange branding (as the phone is now out of contract) so any help would be greatly appreciated. TVM.

Have now tried Win7 in XP compatability mode and Mirage starts but then hangs on reading the bin file. I don't know what to do next.

I've now considered Virtual PC running XP and activesync, but I believe this does not support USB. Anyone any ideas please?
