Well, yeah, right now a working charmer would be nice, as my Wizard decided to stop working a few days ago.

The news at the moment are that I'm still not able to cause the format failed error and that I'm very bussy and killed my Testcharmer's IPL.

So there is nothing going on until I've got the money to get a JTAG to SUB connector.

There is only one more week of school here.
I hope I'm able to figure out more things after is is over.
Have a nice day

How I fix "format failed" error on HTC Charmer:
1) first I read all forum and try all manuals but this do not help;
2) I make full backup of my HTC Wizard using this solution:
- Connect Wizard in bootloader mode with miniSD inside;
- run mtty;
- type "r2sd all" and hit enter and wait to the end (at end shows "cmd>");
3) put minisd card into mini2sd convertor and insert it to broken Charmer;
4) enter into bootloader mode - camera+power;
5) press "Voice command" then Charmer ask to do this on dispaly.

Now we can make hard heset without "format failed" error but Charmer still freeze on splash screen - I flash it using last branded firmware (in my TMO UK Charmer it was RUU_Charmer_38221_382116_026921_TMO_UK_WWE_Ship).

Have fun with working Charmer!

Question MTTY does not do what I want...

@Dr_Wolodya

After a long, long time with my bricked Charmer collecting dust in a shelf, I looked here again and saw your post.
I have a working Wizard, I have MTTY running, but when I try to write the backup to SD card, MTTY says:

"Cmd>r2sd all
***** user area size = 0x1E880000 Bytes

R2SDBackup() - Download type = 6
usTotalBlock = 1 sizeof(SDCARD_SIGNATRUE_TABLE)=512

You didn't get the proper security level to download a specific image"

*SIGH* So again, Iīm busted...anybody knows how to "get a proper security level" in MTTY?

Make cid unlock on your Wizard, also make sim unlock, application unlock, try with other firmware (without operator customization).
If not help - try on other miniSD card.

Thumbs down Failure again!

Hi all,

okay, found my MiniSD-SD adapter and took a Wizard with a flashed WM 6.1 on it.

1. Use MTTY to write ROM image to MiniSD card -> okay
2. Put MiniSD in an adapter and put it in to Charmer
3. Switch on Charmer in boot mode, it asks if it should read ROM from card
3. Push the Voice button -> no joy.

On the lower edge of the screen, the Charmer says: Not allow to update!
Tried a second card, same result.

And thatīs all.

Then I looked around for another ROM I could try, and found RUU_compactII_AKU3.3_38222_382117_026921R_TMO_DE_G ER_Ship.exe somewhere.
Used with a NoID loader, and wow! it completed to 100% and did not break down at 95 or 98% like the others. So I made a reset, and - now the Charmer hangs in the splash screen.

So I think that Charmer really and definitely is a brick...damn!

Unhappy Tried something else, but still no luck

Hi all,

so I tried the method of Dr_Wolodya, but this time with a working Charmer with AKU3 as the source of the image.

Wrote it to SD card with mgetty, okay.

Put the SD card into the bricked Charmer, it asks if it should use the image on SD, but when I confirm it still says "Not allow update!" - grrrr!

Any ideas why it does not want to update?
