Will it greatly weaken Tattoo`s capability if I can`t root it?

I`m planning for a replacement for my ancient HTC Magician. And I am now hesitating about Tattoo. The phone itself looks really awesome, but I see that AT THIS TIMESLICE, a pure noob like me can`t get the root privilege on tattoo, will this greatly weaken tattoo`s capability?

In my memory about Magician, MANY YEARS was needed before a WM6 rom available for it. Even during that dark time when Magician users had to stick with WM2003SE, I could still install anything on it, for WM don`t need root. I don`t really care about if there is a better rom, but I really wish the current rom is fully operational and ready to accept any my dirty wishes. Is it true that if I can`t root tattoo, I won`t able to have a new media player, I won`t able to play a newly shipped game, I won`t able to use software that most Android users are using?
