Default ringtones/notifications from SD card

So i had a few ringtones/notification tones "mp3s" that used to work on my rooted G1 and my rooted MyTouch. I picked up the Nexus one the other day rooted and now i want to put a notification from the SD card in gmail and a ringtone from my SD card. The problem is when i go to settings, then sound and display, then phone ring tone or notification ring tone the tones are not there. also going into gmail and trying from there to no dice. the music player can play these tones and i can see them from Astro file manager. any ideas?

Nexus one rooted
cyanogen 5.0.4.1-N1
amon-ra 1.6.2
radio 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2

Don't know if it keeps it in the list, but in your music player, go to the song you want to make a ringtone and longpress on it and when the menu popup comes up select "set as phone ringtone". Hope it helps!

on my SD card, i created an audio folder (parent) and subfolders (children) for alarms, notifications & ringtones, placed my tones in the respective folders, rebooted the phone and they appeared in the selection lists.

Ok i figured it out, so for what its worth the folders and subfolders have to start with a capital letter. i just renamed my "audio" and "notifications" folder on my SD card to "Audio" and "Notifications" rebooted and they now appear in the drop down list.

Now i wonder why i cant write in system/media/audio/notifications folder, in astro file manager all the edit menu options are grayed out.
