Choose Desire, AMOLED screen (type of OLED screen).
It is much efficient, especially if you use quite a lot of black colors as your theme:

Power consumption
While an OLED will consume around 40% of the power of an LCD displaying an image which is primarily black, for the majority of images, it will consume 60–80% of the power of an LCD - however it can use over three times as much power to display an image with a white background[53] such as a document or website. This can lead to disappointing real-world battery life in mobile devices.

Probably I will just change the background to simply black and see if it has some effects on battery life
The .3" diff in screen size is not much. Think about it, take a ruler and measure it
And dont forget, the HTC Desire RAM is 576MB compared to x10 384MB, that's a big deal for performance during multitask (you will do this for sure).
8 MP camera does not do justice compare to 5MP, the sensor is too tiny anyway. In fact, the 5MP will produce cleaner image (less noise).
Also, HTC Desire has "optical trackpad", but I am not sure how effective is this ... Anyone know if this can substitute a D-Pad? For example during browsing
And x10 is ugly ... my taste
Found x10 unboxing and hands-on:

Again, after watched it, I will take HTC Desire anyday!
