nice, i've modified the file a little more, this time should delete the help video of UK and some other pictures and stuff, can you check it again plz?

PD: If it works, you can delete the help video from orange in the dump directory and build the rom again without it I guess. So, you will have a 10Mb lighter ROM. The other pictures from Orange may be deleted I guess and it will give a little more room on the ROM.

I found out why I couldn't see the initflashfiles.dat before, it was hidden, and I hadn't set my folders to show hidden files, after doing that I could see most of the Orange stuff.

So I wen't through the initflashfiles.dat, found the Orange related items, removed them from the list and also removed them from the dump folder at the same time.

So I built and flashed that but I think I deleted a few more things than I should have, on first boot it stuck on a white screen. I restarted the phone and it boot OK but the start menu only has the today shortcut.

On the plus side, I did remove the poweroff.gif, and I no longer get the Orange shutdown animation

i dunno....

maybe a small step for cookers, but for ROM wanters, its a giant leap for mankind

i've not tried the versions with the orange branding pre-removed

but i'm really happy with the version that doesn't say orange when it boots up

In my case more a question of 'baby steps' than giant leaps, but hopefully getting there gradually....and beginning to make a bit more sense !

I've successfully made a straightforward unpack / repack of the original ROM, following in Da Mafia's pioneering footsteps.

Then have tried a significantly modified one
- used Arag0n85's initflashfiles.dat file (out of interest his latest file is 48k, the original was 223k !)
- removed all the gash .cab files, .tsks, Help Video, all the Today Screen images apart from Default Blue and a few other things from the \Dump directory on the PC
- inserted the replacement start / shutdown files.
Total ROM file size is now only 212MB instead of the original 254MB (but probably needs a few things put back).

This concoction has flashed OK; however:

- I'm back to an Orange logo at start up - have to figure where that lives, but think Arag0n85 knows where to look.
- only have a single icon on the Start Menu - for Today ! (Same as Da Mafia reported above). So can go back and forth between the titanium UI and the Start, to things which are accessible off the Titanium screen but not much else.
- Also nothing in Program Files when the directory structure is viewed from the PC over WMDC

- There is partial navigation through File Explorer, accessed via the Pictures & Videos tab on the front page, but unfortunately while Directories and all Image files show up fine, it is not displaying other files.

But, apart from the original splash screen, for all intents and purposes a completely de-Oranged device

....so I used the destop PC via WMDC to line up the previous hybrid IT / UK ROM and put back via the short pins method [ Incidentally I've found a Case Logic Velcro cable tie strap just about ideal as a temporary device to secure the battery against coming adrift ].

In the meantime, having a browse through another edit of the initflashfiles.dat and am now running at filesize of 133k. An interesting question is whether to repeat using the hybrid ROM as the start point as that never had the initial splash screen....

But, enough excitement for one day !

you need to use IT rom to get rid of 1st orange screen.
it is in phone firmware not in WM part of the rom.

TGTool - rom tool for Toshiba TG01
cLK bootloader for HTC HD2

Thanks @cedesmith - I thought would probably need to repeat the original exercise. Will try tonight.

hi Kevin,

well i know what you spent your Sunday doing?!!!

This is fantastic & amazing that suddenly (or so it seems) we're able to make the changes we want to the orange ROM

You've taken this way further than me - i just used the non-orange-boot-screen tsw* & then manually debranded as per your earlier post

may i ask about the benefits of the ROM who've created with various items pre-removed?

If i understand correctly (ie my question is - do i understand correctly?!)

what you've set to achieve

By pre-removing various images & cab files that are considered spurious to the clean build, you've made a ROM that uses less disk space than the standard image

BUT this doesn't free up any additional RAM memory, just file space?

what's happened

you've succeeded... but maybe a little to much as various menu items are missing....?

.....and the (hated) orange boot screen has returned...?

And this happened because the "pre-uninstalled" ROM was based on the orange UK varient?

Cheers & thanks yet again...

*a question now to show how truly stupid i am (open to anyone who wants to tell me )

When i did this:

tgtool -sp UK.tsw UK.nb0

tgtool -mp UK.nb0 ITA.tsw TG01WP_00.tsw

I thought i was replacing the IT langauge on the Italian ROM with English - then i would have ended up with the Italian ROM in the eng langauge (no orange branding at all + spb shell)

but instead (as you know) i have the UK ROM with the Italian boot screen.

So what did the cmd prompts create? Overwriting the IT boot screen to the UK ROM?

I'm only curious, i'm 110% completely satisfied & floating on a cloud of non-orangeness with what has transpired ROM wise this wknd

[you can see why i wait for you cooks & general brainy types to come up with the new stuff !!!!]

Thanks all

Adam
