Default WiFi Router / Hotspot Code

So my understanding is that wifi tethering has been around for Android for sometime but only accessible to those that choose to root their phone. Now that EVO 4G has the capability to become a wifi router/hotspot, does this mean that HTC has cracked the Android solution to a stable wireless tethering solution on Android 2.1?? Does this also mean we'll see the wifi router/hotspot code in the SDK??

I really would like to know this as well. With the new app and widget will someone rip this and make it free so we can install and not be rooted?

If it's an app that requires a code, I highly doubt it. And if they do don't expect it to be on XDA because of the extremely strict(thank god) policy on Warez, they are batting down sprint apps that are released into ROMs so that would definitely be off limits.

I highly doubt there will be an access code in the SDK and I'm assuming HTC wizardry is just thanks to them spending quite a bit of time with the NDK and maybe even just giving their apps Superuser access in a preference file somewhere.

Well back in my WinMo days (thank god there over) HTC came out with a wifi app that was then syndicated to every rom and was also available as a stand alone app. I can only assume the same will happen here, no?

It's definitely possible of course, Users outside sprint MIGHT be able to end up using it if it requires a code I doubt anyone will crack it and post it. And with the upcoming release of 2.2 where it's a feature the desire to do so is even lower, and there's a good chance the app will still require some form of root access even if cooked in.

To get free tethering you have to be rooted no matter what, this is not winmo. The only way to get superuser access is to root your phone and the free tethering app will require superuser access. It will not be possible just to install an apk and expect to have free tethering.
