Unable to communicate with Active Sync

My phone is unable to connect to active sync, just happened yesterday. My phone was acting up so I soft reset and when I turned it back on all my contacts were gone. I tried connection to active sync using windows mobile device center but my phone is unable to connect, I keep getting an 'error' message after the usual connecting. My phone shows up on 'my computer' Any ideas?

Type : start-settings-connections-usb to pc
uncheck "enable advanced network functionality"
