I was ready to buy one from a Nexus One user for 20GBP - no one wanted to sell it

Granted it's from Hong Kong and will probably not be such high quality as the actual OEM ones, but we'll see.

I'll post some pictures when I get it...

That one is just a G1 case called differently. It will fit Desire, but it's different from Nexus One case.

Would this case be loose enough to accommodate both the Desire and a gel case, like flexi-shield?

I doubt it because on Nexus One it's pretty tight. Though for that price you might get it and try to stretch it.
