Default Unlocked SPL?

So, I'm completely new to CDMA phones and Verizon in general but I realized that when doing a PRL update (*228, Opt 2) the phone actually reboots and one of the messages that comes up on the screen is "SPL unlocked" when the music starts playing. Not sure if this may help in rooting or not, but I figured I would throw it out there.

can you walk me threw this process?

if you have an unlocked spl then root is a lot more accessible

EDIT: didnt work for me... I did the *288 unlocked spl but when trying to fastboot flash recovery recovery.img says "signature verification fails"

I think it only does that when phone is being programmed. All phones do this even dumb phones.

yeah this is for programming but i was thinking that when the prompt says unlocked spl, possibly if you pull battery the phone spl will not be relocked.

when i got the SPL unlocked message i just hit end call.

but now the phone wont mount sdcard or debugging when plugged into pc.

i can still make calls though.

im assuming a reboot will fix the issue but that will probably relock the phone?

thought id play with it, but if SPL unlocked helps root then the disabled debugging seems like a good lead, like htc blocked that path by disabling pc connections lol.

have you tried flashing the recovery inside of a proper signed update.zip? have you tried to flash an update through recovery (signed update)? can you relink me to the latest system dump (605.2)?

seems like me you and binny are the only ones working on this. and i honestly havent worked on it much at all

Guys, this is not gonna give us root. This is how the PRL is downloaded to the phone for programming, and as said before, this happens on all, ALL, CDMA phones.
I am angel12 from modaco, ppcgeeks, alldroid, droidmod.org and most other forums, i just didnt get angel12 here for some reason, someone already had it.

SPL (service programming lock) is just a very simple verification method CDMA devices use to make sure the caller information (mdn, min, sys id,etc) is bring programmed by the proper service instead of some rogue server
