Default Sprint Evo on Existing Plan

I saw a topic thread similar to mine but the question he asks is different and I didnt want to Necro his thread so heres my questions!

If I have an existing plan with Sprint and I purchase the Evo at it's regular $450 price. I want to replace my existing phone with it but they said at Sprint I would need to make my plan the Evo specific plan because of the 4g capabilities etc.

If I change my plan to this Evo plan and pay the full $450 would that renew my contract for 2 years? I don't think so but I would like some clarification and some insight.

Thanks ahead!

I've been chatting on and off with Sprint reps the past week or two about similar topics.

Changing your plan will NOT prompt a new contract.

The only time they will renew your contract now is if they subsidize the cost of your phone.

Wow! Thank you so much for this info! That makes me wanting to wait there earlier feel more like I'm not wasting my time.

Has anyone successfully gotten the $10/mo upcharge for 4G dropped if they are not in a 4G market? I live in an area that is not even on the roadmap and I refuse to pay for a service I cannot use just for the hardware. If I buy the EVO unsubsidized will they allow activation?

The $10 upcharge is not just for 4g. Last I read it also gives 3g priority data and truly unlimited data.

Spoke with the sprint Rep today,he stated that it was in fact 3g 'priority data' 3X regular speeds. So how is this done technologically? Are they throttling the regular signal or is it something in the EVO radio?
