Default Help modding roms

Ok so i'm been on the site for a couple of months now but now i would like to start modding my own rom and was wondering if anyone could help me out with starting out. I know how to remove apk files from roms but don't know how to sign the zip so that would be a good first step otherwise if there is a guide for this if someone could post a link that would be awesome as well thanks again
