Default If I root, what happens when FroYo drops for the Evo?

1) Just curious.. I had intended to wait to root until FroYo came out for the evo officially. But if it won't make any difference, I would love to just do it now. Any thoughts?

2) BTW, i have seen conflicting info-- will 4G still work if I root?

3) One other thing -- is there any way to backup my contacts/homescreen config/apps/etc so i can put them back on the phone after rooting?

TIA

In regards to 1, as far as I understand it if you root now you have two choices when the official FroYo update comes out. Either you accept the OTA update and lose root or you wait for a "rooted" version of the update to appear in the forums and flash that manually. From what I've seen the update get rooted fairly quickly, so it doesn't seem like a major hassle. I just rooted my phone recently, so this could be wrong.

1. If you wanna do it, go right ahead.
2. Certain roms have 4G fixed, some dont.
3. contacts are saved on google server.. titanium backup is what you need, but again that requires root..

Official releases will be released by the devs with root enabled, just like the latest OTA and the stock ROM.

Oh, and if you want to backup: Get Titanium Backup (HIGHLY recommend the donate version), root with unrEVOked, backup everything, really root with Toast's method, then restore it all.

So, if I am reading this correctly TheBiles, unrEVOked will *not* wipe current settings, allowing me to root > titanium > toast?

I have the same question:

I've rooted with toast, installed Kang's 2.2 build. I assumed that it would still be rooted, but Titanium backup says I'm not. ("This app requires root privileges")

So if Kang's Froyo doesn't have root access enabled, can I use unrevoked to get it? Or is that just for 2.1?

That should definitely be rooted. Did you click the "Problems?" tab and install BusyBox? That should definitely fix it. And to the above post: unrEVOked will not wipe anything. It is just an apk.

Which method do I use to root if I've already installed the first auto-update?
