Unable to root?

So I followed the thread word for word but im still having some issues. The PC36IMG.zip flashes and everything fine, upon reboot it shows the update icon like it did when i first installed the OTA when i got the phone, reboots again, takes a few minutes to finish booting. I then skip through the setup app and reboot into recovery. I run the recovery-windows.bat file, the files are all pushed but i get access denied on all the "adb shell" commands. Did i miss something?

Tried getting the original RUU but that program wouldnt work for me. Reflashing the rooted PC36IMG.zip and installing Rom Manager to try the other method
