Default Sprint Hotspot Issue

I get crappy speeds via the WiFi hotspot. For example, when I am in a good 4G zone, I get 2-3Mb download speeds on the Evo itself but my laptop or iPad connected via hotspot will get between 200-400Kb downloads. Same problem when I'm in 3G.

200-400 kilobits or kilobytes.... if its kilobytes, then that is normal download speed as statedfor your 4g connecting.

Kbits.

If I get 2-3M download speeds on the phone, why would another device connected by wifi to that same phone not get at least similar download speeds? If I get 2M on the phone and 1.6 to 1.8M on the iPad or laptop connected to the phone's hotspot, I'm happy. But getting 10% of the download speeds doesn't make sense. The Evo clearly has a great signal. Why would it not be able to pass it along to other devices by wifi since Sprint's Hotspot is designed (and marketed as being able) to do that?

--- Edited, I can't read apparently ---

Have you tried different channels on the wifi tether? Might be interference? Are you running at full 54mbit on the client? Interference would easily drop the speed down to 11 or lower, and absolutely KILL your speeds

Try firing up osmonitor (is cmdline top available?) and see if something is maxing the CPU. Since most of the routing is done with the built-in Linux routing and iptables, I don't think that would cause it, but CPU usage or interference would definitely kill it.

I get 3000kbits/s or 3Mbits/s on the phone and I get 200-400kbits/s via WiFi hotspot on my computer. I am getting about 10% of the bandwidth via the WiFi hotspot than I get on the phone itself or even on the laptop when tethered via USB.
