Default Backing up data before new build.

Hi.
As more new builds come out, obviously I would like to try them and keep my phone up to date, with the current build.
But it does get a bit tedious having to reinstall and reconfigure my phone each time.
Is there a good way to backup and restore the data after each build to help with this.
I do see the 'backup' and 'restore' options in the Haret loader, is this what its for? Or is there an Android app, or can I just install the system without clearing the data?
Options, opinions or suggestions.

Thank you

for apps you can use astro.

option button/ tools/ app man

i use ADW launcher which has its own back up settings/layout

havnt figured out system settings yet. they are *supposed to* back up with google (you check the box every time you set up), but i have not seen that work.
I mostly am using my phone, which has bad search functionality. If i missed a previous thread get over it.
