Default Better use of screen real estate

I've just seen the videos for the Dell Streak and am really impressed with how they've used the screen real estate to allow many icons to be displayed. You can see this via the home screen or the application drawer.

The Galaxy S and the Streak have the same resolution screen (800 x 480) so why can't the Galaxy S do something similar. I understand the Galaxy S has a physical screen size 1" less than the Streak and thus the icons may be a little smaller but they look plenty big on the Streak and should be fine if they were a little smaller.

Even if it didn't look ok, I'm sure there's lots of middle ground somewhere between what the HTC Desire has and the Dell Streak as they all have the same resolution.

I feel somewhat cheated to have such a high resolution mobile phone to then find that icons/UI is just made bigger rather than putting more onto the screen.
