Default G-Sensor needs calibration?!

Hey guys...

when I started Layar the first time I recognized a slightly sloping horizon (when putting the phone into landscape mode, the horizon is about 0,5cm higher on the left than on the right side of the display).

After trying some "spirit level"-tool I also saw some offset.

Anyone else having similar issues or does anyone know how to calibrate the sensor?

Thanks in advance!

I'm using the shipped firmware JF3. Maybe someone with the newer version could check if it's fixed.

I also checked the "Sensor"-menu in the secret menu with *#0*#. Under "MAGNETIC Sensor" it has a PITCH of 4,0 and a ROLL of 3,0 which both should be "0" I guess.

Think you need to wave the phone in an "8" to calibrate it.

Edit: http: //www.iphonelife.com/sites/iphonelife.com/files/u2440/compass8.jpg This link shows the process for an iphone, it's the same for every other magnetic sensor

Waving a figure "8" does not have an impact on the tilt here, still an offset from 3-4 at PITCH and ROLL level :(

Could anyone else try the system-menu to see if there are other values displayed?

Waving "8" can not solve this problems...

It is said that the g-sensor actually has a calibrating tool, "sensorcalibutil_yamaha"

It is under /system/bin/, you can see that with root explore.

I tried to run this service with adb, but Permission Denied......

hope someone can solve it...

There are many i9000 user meeting this g-sensor problem.(Y +24 degree)

This is really a bit problem.

Calibration tool working perfectly, just calibrated myself.

But you need to have your phone rooted. Then just do this:
Code:
adb shell
su
/system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha
then place your phone horizontally and still (remember that back of the phone is not flat - so do something so screen is horizontal), and press enter.

then restart phone and thats it!

thanks went in the terminal emulator right on the phone and ran the program and rebooted.. now pitch and roll are perfect in compass (which i use to test) so it did calibrate sucessfully.. b4 i had the same issue where they were both slightly off.. maybe the factory floor is not level in korea?
