Default USB Tethering

Iīm using the VaniljEclair RLS6 with the last kernel and I couldnīt get the tethering function to work via USB.
I never used it on android, only used it on Windows Mobile and it was working perfect, now I just removed Windows from my Kaiser and put android as the main OS.

Could someone please help me doing this?
Iīve searched in the forum and canīt get the right answer
Do I have to have root permission to do this?

Iīm using Ubuntu 10.04 in my netbook

Thanks a lot

same question here, tethering is the only thing i've missed with android on kaiser.
i've noticed that iptables complains about missing multiport support, maybe i can build own kernel with this?
has anybody solved tethering problem on kaiser?

If i could get tethering working in android, i would flash it and replace WM6.1
This is the only things i want in a new android build; working phone, working data, working tehtering.

I also have problem with tethering with android.

in linux, dmesg only shows usb storage

if I try modprobing usbserial, android is detected as serial adapter (/dev/ttyUSB0) but not as a modem.
