help me i can't put my x10 in flashing mode

hi people im new here i was on htc hero i want to root my x10 i'm doing the steps wright but my phone doesn't start at flash mode what could i do ?????????????
1- power down the device
2-remove battery
3- return back the battery and hold the back key then put the usb cable in

well the phone turning on after i put usb cable what is wrong here any one know?????????????????

ur prob accidently pressing the power button when putting ya cable in?

or ur not startin the .bat file quick enough!
