It should work for all of them, but I sold my UK milestone, so I can't test it with anything but a Telus one. Did it say the flash was successful?

Perhaps if you restore it without flashing boot, it'll start successfully.

Ok, how do I do that? Sorry, for being so noob on this. I know that it can be a bit annoying to some.

Should this work with 3G on a UK/Euro milestone? I have a German Milestone and was hoping to get 3G working here on Rogers (Montreal). I used your backup and was getting erratic networking behavior.

EDGE worked most of the time, 3G was detected, but not functional for more than a few seconds (if at all...hard to tell at what point it was dropping to EDGE).

Are there hardware difference between Milestones? I thought that flashing it to the Telus backup would simply enable the right frequencies...was that wishful thinking? If not, what else could have gone wrong?

By the way, good job on the theme and the rest of the setup. It was fast and beautiful...but with erratic networking, its sort of hard to make it my main setup.

I don't think it's possible with OpenRecovery. With adb recovery, you can accomplish it with the --noboot flag. I haven't played around with OpenRecovery all that much, so perhaps there is a method of excluding the boot partition that I'm not aware of.

I do believe there are hardware differences between milestones. I had a UK Milestone when they were first released, hoping to get 3G with Fido, but regardless of what I tried, even with a stock Telus firmware, 3G refused to be recognized.

Have you ever gotten 3G to work on Rogers with your German Milestone? If so, with what firmware?

Nope, which is why I was hoping that you had gotten to work on your UK Milestone on Fido...:)

I only saw the 3G symbol, but it was never really functional.

I also think I tried a lot of variations.I lost track of which firmwares, sbfs and Nandroid backups I tried. Never got anything more than 3G appearing and erratic behavior.

Can I asked what you did to enable NA 3G bands on this European Firmware?
With your backup, I even dropped down to not being able to make call (Emergency Only mode).

So you switched to Telus on got their Milestone?

Hi All,

I flashed this backup on top of a unlocked and rooted Telus 2.1.

I had all my apps and 3g/HSDPA works flawlessly.

In fact I just ran a speedtest.net test and got 3.7/2.3 (mbps) u/d.

Which is great! and the phone is super fast and responsive.

I did notice that I've lost a few things:
1. A-GPS fix for the telus milestone (change supl server from telus to goolge. The phone currently has Motorola server, which doesn't seem to work)

2. Paid apps in market. I Cant see paid apps in market. The phone says loading but nothing show up when you click, top paid apps.

3. I lost flac-native functionality. It was an addon fix anyway.

Battery life is really good. Using it with Set CPU set to 250Mhz idle.

Quadrant scores are around 680-700 range.

Overall Pretty impressive...I might stick with this backup until 2.2 arrives, if it ever arrives.

any plans to update this to either .38 or TELUS – SHOLS_U2_03.11.0?

Really tempted to root and use this as im getting fed up with my slow GPS lock, lack of internal memory, slow cpu and launcher pro redrawing all the time!!!

Cant wait for 2.2 but this sounds as if its the bridge to keep my milestone in favour!

installed this it really is lightening fast, really enjoying it so thanks for you hard work! What temperature is the battery able to go to before it runs too hot and could potentially do damage?

Certainly considering an update to the Telus one, I've got more testing to do to determine whether or not it's actually worth it. I may just put pieces of the Telus one into the current one, making somewhat of a hybrid.

I don't like letting my battery get above 50C. It's never gotten that hot on its own, though. It's mostly been due to being left in a hot car or something of the like. As far as the point of doing damage, I'm not really the person to ask.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've changed the location server to Google's as you suggested. I haven't noticed a difference personally, but I have no doubt Google's is more reliable, so it'll be set as such when it's updated.

As far as you not being able to see paid apps, I'm really not sure as to what the cause of that is. They're visible for me just fine.

FLAC I do hope to add for the next update as well, I'm certainly missing it so far.

I'm still on Fido. I sold my UK Milestone and bought a Telus one outright, and had it unlocked. It's pretty clear that there are hardware differences now, up until this point I wasn't 100% sure. For me, 3G made the amount of money lost after a cheap sale (just under $400) totally worth it.

Is there a manual update for this I would like to use the google agps servers if its better than the current settings and i dont want to do a full system nandroid restore (would that delete my settings, widgets, accounts etc......

In addition anyone having the redraw issues with Launcher pro? I used to get it all the time but now im on this rom its a lot less but it is still there! Anyone have any specific launcher pro memory settings that work for them?

Great rom though loving the speed!

Update.

I can see the paid apps now. I had to let market load the apps for good 10 minutes. Now it shows eveything and refreshes properly.

While I don't agree with the notification theme, this is an awsome rom.

Thank you for it

Any update on wether your integrating TELUS – SHOLS_U2_03.11. with this rom - gemini posted how good the new improvements were with 3.11 - this could make the fast and light rom fly!!!

Many annoyances I've found have been removed, including all unnecessary Motorola apps. The Motorola docks have been replaced with Google's standard ones - I find them more useful.

It's based on a hybrid of SHOLS_U2_02.36.0 for central Europe, and SHOLS_U2_03.11.0 for Telus, with North American frequencies enabled. Uses LauncherPro as the default, and only bundled launcher, includes the Dalvik cache hack, and will overclock the CPU to 1100MHz. To some, this may be excessive, but the Cortex A8 is an extremely capable CPU, which, I've found, has absolutely no trouble running at even 1250MHz while being absolutely stable. At 1100MHz, the device remains cool to the touch, aside from when there's heavy 3G activity - something that occurs even at stock speeds. That said, battery life continues to be as good, if not better, than a stock firmware.

The overclock is automatically adjusted based on the load of the CPU. If you rarely do intensive tasks with your device, it will rarely reach its max clock speed. This helps to ensure cool, reliable operation while being completely unnoticeable by the end-user.

If you would like to change, or disable overclocking, you can do so with GOT's OpenRecovery. It will override the default settings.

JIT is NOT installed. If you'd like JIT, it can be installed via OpenRecovery.

What you can expect from V4:
    -Improved battery life
    -Considerably snappier performance all-around
    -More reliable data connection
    -Automatic APN configuration nearly worldwide
-Unbeatable stability (weeks upon weeks of uptime)
    -A new theme

    V4.1 Update:
-Interactive Governor added (backport by nadlabak)
    -Updated Messaging icon
-Uses Google DNS for faster host resolves

    V5 Changelog:
    -Plenty of performance enhancements
    -Updated Market (thanks antonyfl)
    -Switched to ADW Launcher
    -Other stuff I can't remember.

    V5.1 Changelog:
    -Updated maps/adw/facebook
    -Modified Phone.apk (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=8120125)
    -Bugfixes
    -Additional scheduler improvements
    -Reduced size

    V5.2 Changelog:
    -Fixed setup page glitch

You'll notice the power menu has an entry labeled "Yearly". It's reboot. I'm too lazy to find the reboot string. Yeah, it looks weird, but it works. If you don't like it, just swap out android.policy.jar with one from an earlier version.

I'd like to thank Jedipottsy for the base theme design. The post can be found here.

When upgrading from version 3.0 or earlier, or coming from a different "rom" entirely, I very strongly suggest you wipe your device prior to flashing. You don't have to, but you wont receive many of the performance gains without doing so.
Future versions will not necessitate, or recommend, a wipe. Including 4.0 to 4.1.

For those who require 900/1800/2100 frequencies, they can be enabled by applying the update.zip below. Be sure you've already installed the backup before you run the update.zip, however. Further localization, such as keyboard layout, can be accomplished using OpenRecovery.

    apps2ext GScript script

    Hey everybody!

Finally i got some time to finish this... :D

So, here is script for GScript (Lite) that will enable apps2ext on Telus Lite!!

Do this on your own risk!! I cannot be held responsible if your phone doesnt start after this, or anything else! This is provided without any warranty!!!
BACKUP YOUR PHONE BEFORE RUNNING THIS!!!!!!

It has two scripts and folder (what to do with it read in step 1). Script named "app2ext.sh" will move /data/app, /data/app-private, /data/dalvik-cache AND /data/data to sdcard! If you don't have fast sdcard, you probably don't want to run this one!.
Second script is named as "app2ext_nodata.sh", and like name implies, it will move all folder mentioned EXCEPT /data/data.
In folder, there are modified /system/bin/mot_boot_mode and ext2.ko module. This will only work on TelusLite!!!

Also, if you installed/runned any app2ext before, you need to remove (if exists) /system/lib/modules/ext2.ko, and it's recomended to wipe ext2 partition.

    Good luck! ;)

    Procedure:

    Step 0: BACKUP YOUR PHONE!!!!!!
Step 1: extract content of attached zip to /sdcard/gscript (i'm not shure about caps, so create folder gscript with all small leters"")
Step 2: Open GScript (Lite), press Menu key, tap on Add script, tap on Load file, select app2ext.sh, make sure that Needs SU is ENABLED and then tap on Save
Step 3: Tap on app2ext item in scripts list (main application window)
Step 4: Ignore some errors, and wait until it says that you need to reboot your device
Step 5: Cross your fingers and reboot device!!! :D First startup could/will last longer, so be patient!!
    Step 6: Enjoy!!!!

If you remove sdcard from phone, it will work, but only with apps that were on phone before you executed this script!!

I tested it on fresh install of TelusLite 5.2, and it's working perfectly. I moved /data/data to sdcard, rebooted, and had 190MB free space on /data, even after I installed Skype!

Either way, big thanks for what you've done! I'm confident this is the best ROM for the Milestone and I can't think of anything that needs to be fixed. It's complete. Great job :)

Edit: I could use the wallpaper from the first post. TIA

No idea who created it, sadly.

Thank you very much for your kind words. It's been a lot of fun working with the Milestone.
If anybody would like to take over, I'll gladly hand over the thread.

Hey i get the same error here,do you mind to load the sms/mms apk up? I would be very pleased.

Btw i simply love that rom!!! Fast and stable plus the battery remains (at least for me) very very long...from about 10hours with cm7 rc3 to over 20....and i use my mobile as it should be, 2-3 hrs surfing 1-2hrs music and msn almost all the time...
