HTC Hero 2.73.405.93 (EU 1st OTA) rooting
Here's my issue:
I have been looking around and doesn't achieve to get
root access (and do a nandroid restore) on my
HTC Hero with 2.73.405.93 CL#154788 (European HTC Rom with OTA pre-update).
edit: Trying fastboot to restore nandroid got me:
Code:
sending 'system' (150795 KB)... FAILED (remote: not allow)
(cf. this post forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529167 (can't link yet))
Details:
I rooted my Hero a long time ago, and it got me issues for the (european) OTA update. The first OTA ran fine, but the second update (to android 2.1), though it downloaded fine, couldn't achieve the process after reboot.
First thing I needed was to restore the original recovery image. The one I had, Cyanogen 1.4 recovery coming from using Flashrec, brought issues.
Still the updating got problem after the reboot. It exited with an (status 256) error in
applypatch, concerning the file tiwlan.ini. That's a file I modified long time ago and reedited to its original state, except seemingly for a byte, maybe a space, when I compared to the original one from an official (2.73.405.5) ROM. I suspect that
applypatch exited whle doing some signature checking.
Then I tried to restore the root access to repair the incriminated tiwlan.ini file. But using Flashrec (old or new), I couldn't get back to achieve a customized recovery boot (stuck on HTC screen). So I tried different methods to get root access, but no access so far.
Moreover I accidently full wiped

, but fortunately have a few day back nandroid waiting for be restored.
?: I was wondering whether the first OTA update contained fix by HTC to prevent previous rooting methods.
Is that true ?
In any case I looking a method to
gain root access and dot a
nandroid restore on my device. Any hints greatly appreciated.
Or any advice on the possibility to perform the second OTA from the wiped 2.73.405.93, root a 2.1 Hero, and then perform a nandroid restore.
