Red face With all the talk about possibly bricking phones

if you try to install custom roms at some point or another, who is thinking about getting insurance for their Droid X?

The only way to brick your phone is to install the wrong radio and/or SPL combination. Simply flashing a rom will not render your device permanently useless.

i always get insurance on my phones and its not because i flash custom roms. More for accidents and phyically breaking the phone. Such and awesome and EXPENSIVE device, you would be crazy not to insure it.

Would it be better to go with the $9.99 best buy warranty ( I hear there's no deductable) or $7.00 for verizon's?

Verizons definitely. The black tie protection offered by BB is crap.

Verizon's is $7/ month, right? Squaretrade.com is also an option, but their cost is pretty high on cell phone warranties.

edit: and what's the $9.99 BBY warranty? Do they bill it to you monthly? Online I just see the one-time $169.98 fee.

Check with your auto/home insurerer...I have state farm and was able to add smart phone coverage for $2/month. Full coverage no deductible, you break/lose it and they replace it.

Normally that would be the case, but doesn't this change the equation a bit?

Careful with the home owners. Two years ago there was a lot of stink over people not able to get insurance for next house because they had some minor claim. ANY claim on home owners was enough to get them denied on next house.

This route probably not what you want to do if you 'plan' on 'maybe' losing your phone.

Do your research.
