do i need to install the radio update for this to work? (for 720p video etc)

Another good rom one thing though, why are all sense roms no matter 2.1/2.2 never super smooth when in all apps.

When you use launcher pro for example its super smooth in all apps but when ever i used sense ones they never are.

yes, 1.2a should be fine with "no wipe" from any desire froyo rom, just make sure you wipe the Dalvik Cache
