Bluetooth Tether works OOB with Win7!

FYI, since this is a big reason to need root... I got Bluetooth tethering to work out of the box on Windows 7. Heres to hoping todays(?) patch that contains blutooth "fixes" doesn't break it.

Not an app. From what I understand you turn on Bluetooth on your cell phone and laptop and connect them and your computer will think it's linked to an access point.

Can someone confirm or deny if vzw can tell if you're tethered or they think its just regular phone data usage?

Yes, they can tell. Also, these instructions were posted in the Eris forum on AF--don't know if they'll work on the Droid X.
