Default Download Mode/Upload Mode for Stalling/Lagging procedure

I was trying to MOD my captivate according to the procedures posted on the "Real fix for the "stalling/lagging" problem" thread. I downloaded the files needed and followed the procedures. However, I can't seem to get the phone to go to the download mode. By pressing vol down and power button does do anything on this phone. So i tried vol up and power and got UPLOAD MODE.

Have any of you tried this MOD? I post it on Vibrant thread but I am sure they will kick me off. There is a moderator who keeps posting to leave their thread and go to Captivate thread. Annoying. Maybe I am ahead of myself but this MOD is done on the Vibrant, I am not sure why it wouldn't work on the Captivate. This is the only MOD i want to have done until a new rom is available. I hear it increase the phone very drastically.

You can do it form adb: adb reboot download
That will get you into download mode.

WARNING: i have tried this mode and it totally messed up my Captivate. the gsensor was totally messed up and my recovery was no longer working.
factory resent did NOT help as it did not override the kernel changes.
I had to get the phone replaced.

Do at you own risk.

I don't know about all that lagging nonsence but the second I got rid of the Samsung ui for LauncherPro all the lagging I had experienced was gone. Just loose the Samsung ui trust me you'll be glad you did.

I agree.
I had the i9000 model and it was very laggy with or without Touchwiz.
The Captivate performs much better without Touchwiz, but still not as fast as other Android phones i had.
For those suffering with lag in Touchdown, simply set the DB to be on the sdcard and it will be much faster.

Yeah I'm very interested in a mod for this... it's supposed to double boost your quadrant scores. From like 850 to 1750.

The Touchdown email client has an option to move the database to run on the sdcard of the phone. Once moved to the sdcard Touchdown does not use the 2GB partition intended for app data and thus does not lag.
This feature is specific to the app itself. this is not a mod.
When i tried the mod posted on the i9000 (which essentially uses EXT3 parition on the external sdcard) my gsensor went completely crazy.
All my apps would show up in landscape even when the phone was in portrait.
