I didn't do anything with tether, since buying the phone. I really don't need it for anything yet. I figure I will mess around with the phone more, when Froyo comes out (hopefully in Sept). But, since using this method, one click flasher, everthing is working as though I just bought the phone. No problems yet. I was having GPS issues, but did the supl.google change method, but then also put skyhook set to "On". My GPS is working perfectly, with accuracy.

So, I screwed something up while unlocking market apps (not sure what yet, will figure that out in a bit), and the result was that my phone would do the splash screen and then would go to a blank screen. I still had an adb connection at that point (I'd enabled development earlier), but needed to reflash since I couldn't get a root prompt since the superuser app couldn't approve the request. Had to reflash to stock; note that I never got the phone/pc icon, I just had to force a reflash. Here's another "what worked for me":

What didn't work:

- Phone unplugged, putting battery in and holding down either both or the 'down' volume key + power. Phone would just keep cycling between black screen & at&t logo.

What worked:

- Phone *plugged in*, putting battery in. You should see a large battery symbol showing that the phone is charging, but off. Then hold down both volume keys + power. Phone will cycle to black screen, then back to battery symbol, then black screen again.

- On that second or subsequent black screens, let go of the power key.

You should end up on the android shoveling "Downloading..." screen.

Now, on your desktop, if you're in windows either one of two things should have happened -- Odin should have seen the phone, saying "0:[COM6]" or something, or nothing happened.

If Odin saw your phone, hit start, and continue on your merry way.

If it did not, open up Device Manager. If you see an unknown "Gadget Serial" device, then you need to install the drivers for Samsung's serial download mode. These seem to be found in Samsung's PC Studio -- I installed "New PC Studio 1.4" (under Windows 7 x64, you have to tell it to install in compat mode for Vista). After that, unplug your phone and plug it back in and Odin should see it. Then continue with the download.

The first time you do this, it might just sit at "DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET". If it does for longer than a few seconds, unplug your phone, pull the battery, and start over. The second time, when it's actually working, you'll see messages about various files being downloaded, a blue progress bar will be on your phone.

Hope that helps.

Glad you were able to get your phone back up and running...

From all of my testing, even pulling the battery in the middle of a flash will not brick this phone, the download mode and the screen with the phone+!+cpu cannot be touched and is totally separate from the everything else so you can always get to it not matter what you do to your software.

Lightbulb Newbie's Tutorial

I'm new to Androids but this isn't the first Samsung I've modded and reflashed. I made this guide for someone who's phone is still functional but wants to bring their phone back to stock.

1. Make sure you can access the ADB Command if not follow the ADB portion of this guide; Search for IDIOT-PROOF Root Guide ..... sorry I can't post a link because I'm new.

I bypassed installing Adb when I rooted my phone, but its definitely a nice tool and makes things a little more simple to do.

2. Activate USB debugging
2. Plugin USB Cable into computer
3. Mount phone's SD Card
4. Open Odin3 One-Click Flasher
4. Open up ADB command window
5. type in " adb reboot download " - Phone should reboot to Download Mode, Yellow Droid with shovel.
6. Odin3 will say 0:[COM6]
7. Press Start on the Odin3 Flasher
8. Phone will reflash and reboot.

Hope this helps. I reflashed my phone a second time to verify all the steps.

And a second note... if you can only get to recovery mode but not download mode, you can still use adb to reboot into download mode.
