Default How To Sync The N1

Sorry if this has been covered already, I did search but could not find a response that suited.

I was using an HTC Touch Dual, on plugging into my desktop dock it synced with Microsoft Outlook, this was appointments, contacts, calendar etc. I want to do the same with my N1. I assume I need an App that works in a similar fashion to Windows Mobile Device Centre? I did do a little scouting about but a lot referenced doing so via Google. I prefer a non-online method if possible, plug and sync.

Can anyone suggest the best app or apps to acheive this please.

You can check out 'missing sync for android'. They have for both pc & mac.

That being said, i'm afraid i can't be of any more help as i've not used it. Personally pefer syncing to google's cloud :)

Your Google account, which keeps all the data (contacts, calendar etc) in sync with your phone over the air (or actually, over the data connection or WiFi). It wasn't designed to be plugged in to sync.

Assuming you're okay with syncing your Outlook data via the cloud and not only looking for a direct (ie plugged in) syncing solution, then gSyncit is a good utility to use to sync Outlook data to Gmail account; it's $14.99.

I used to use it before I switched from Windows to Mac at home.

I use the Google Cloud too. My info is available in the same form on my computer, my phone, and online. Contacts and Calendar at least. Best part of that method is that if you flash your phone it auto-downloads all your info from your google account when you log-in to through first boot. No plugging in and resyncing. I'm on a Mac, and this is the easiest and cheapest option for me. I won't shell out for Missing Sync because it gave me nothing but headaches for my former WinMo device. Other files are saved to my SD card and I can move them around as I please. Either via USB transfer or Dropbox.

We're using the term 'cloud' here to refer to cloud computing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing) where data is stored by third parties (in this case Google) and accessed via the internet.

Essentially what we're suggesting is that you sync your N1 with your PC's data via Google, ie the third party utilities mentioned above can sync to and from your PC to your GMail account (calendar, contacts, etc). Your N1 will then sync to and from your GMail account.

many thanks, i'll check the info out, still a shame there is not an offline method, so far being the only downside since my change from htc touch dual on windows mobile.

tried gsyncit but when i click on settings I get an error, perhaps not compatible with windows 7?

Error = Interface not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040155)

at Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.ApplicationClass. get_COMAddIns()
at gsyncit.TrayClient.frmMain.OnSettings(Object sender, EventArgs e)
