Default Does Galaxy S support ota?

Does i9000 international version support over the air updates? I use galaxy spica and connecting to pc kies to update the phone is buggy and tiresome...and so ota is important for me..and what other alternatives would u suggest to galaxy s..my friend uses htc legend and desire and I like the way htc releases bug fixes ota frequently..never seen bug fixes on samsung so frequently ...has it changed with i9000 ?also suggest me alternatives ..

EDIT: I ve read many topics with people returning their galaxy s because of annoying bugs in interface..should I get this phone?

The Galaxy S (International Version) does not support OTA updates. The option is missing from the settings, so I guess you will have to get official updates via KIES.

Personally I would be a candidate to be really upset about this, because OTA updates are very convenient and a Windows only software like KIES is very annoying when you are on Ubuntu.

But from my past experiences I think manually applying the 2-4 official updates that will be available for the device is probably not going to be a big deal.

Also, OTA updates are usually distributed over a period of weeks, while an ROM that you can find on a website can be flashed as soon as it is available.

i don't know if it supports ota or not but it's likely that this feature is missing because of the missing option in the settings (like already written above)

i can also only agree that i't very annoying that we are forced to use windows software to flash (odin/kies) as i am a linux-only user (as well). nevertheless i managed to get odin working with a windowsXP running on virtualbox (not OSE beause of USB support) in a ubuntu 10.04 guest os... i have flashed the new JM2 firmware yesterday and it worked quite well.

i also think that OTA is good for noob-users who don't know what "flashing a rom" means but for geeks like us it's more about flashing custom rom's from recovery (in the 10 month i had the htc magic i just installed 1-2 OTA but flashed a LOT of custom roms from the recovery)...

@bugs: i have the phone for about 10 days now and i had no problems with bugs so far. there are some problems (GPS and an occasional lag) but this are issues that will be fixed very soon. partly already with the JM2 firmware... everything else is really nice, so i can only recommend this device to you!

Thanks guys, support in this forum is excellent I flash my phone a lot too but I expected a little more from a high end device like galaxy s compared to my phone...

Edit:
1.Does galaxy s have a notification led light of some sort? On spica I miss a lot of emails and messages because I have to click a button to see for new messages and the phone isn't always in my pocket.. 2. Is the central key in galaxy s also a d-pad ?

1. No, but there's some independent development for on-screen notification "LED"

2. No
