Default Samsung noob

I'm quite new to Samsung's Android processes. I'm pretty well versed in HTC Devices but Samsung phones are just entirely different. I have a HTC Desire as well as this Galaxy S (Touchwiz seriously sucks )

I want to root the phone and install a Stablish FroYo ROM on the phone. Is that possible?

No its not, caus there is now stable froyo rom atm. :P

For your root problem check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742403

You can do it manualy too, like here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754

FroYo will be realesed in early September. Those Froyo Firmwares you can find here are alpha versions, which were leaked. Furthermore jit is broken in JP2 and JP3 (Froyo releases)

I prefer JM2, it feels most responsive, this is 2.1 leaked release.

about touchwiz, just install LauncherPro oder ADW Launcher from market and set it as default

Naturally

Installed LauncherPro after 5 minutes of TouchWiz. Still laggy but meh. Gonna get going with rooting it now and I may try my hand at a Sense UI port once I get a foothold in Galaxy S Development. Sense UI on the Galaxy S would be lovely.

Yeah what he said, don't bother with Froyo atm it's to buggy, i would say go for JM5 + SamSet 1.9c custom ROM + One click Lagfix BETA 2-1

that all = a perfectly smooth SGS, with no issues

and yeah would love to see Sense UI on SGS, it certainly has the capability to use it.
Samsung Galaxy S2.

CM9/MIUI.

Gingerbread 2.3.7.

question to you who have used both touchwiz and sense. Why does tw such so much? I think its quite neat but i have nothing to compare with.

From what ive read the many sense-widgets are very hard on cpu/mem

For one it's laggy. Second of all it looks like a cheap tacky iPhone clone. Not as classy. Sense UI looks much smoother and much more professional.

The Galaxy itself comes with only 4(?!) stock Android widgets and a couple of crappy Samsung Widgets. Sense phones come with a massive amount of widgets.

Here are a list of stock widgets on the Desire

Analog Clock (HTC And Android versions)
Bookmarks
Calculator
Calendar x2
Clock (7 of them including the one with the kick ass weather animations)
Facebook for android
FM Radio
Footprints
Friend Stream
Google Search
Latitude
Mail (Scrollable mail widget supporting exchange and POP/IMAP)
Market widget
Messages widget
Music Widgets
News widget
News and Weather widget
Photo frame (multiple sizes)
Stocks
Settings widgets for almost every setting
Sync widget
Twitter for Sense widget
Weather widget
Youtube Widget

The whole interface seems more streamlined within eachother as well. Samsung would do well to release Stock Android phones tbh.

U can get launcher pro and built-in to plus version (not free) u'll find a calendar, bookmark, contact widget that mimick the sense widgets very well.

Does any one know if samsung's widgets are launcher dependant ? if all they rely on is the framework, then changing the intents of the widgets in the manifest should make it available in other launchers.

Not that I know of. The only one that mimicks a sense widget somewhat well is fancy weather widget which even at that doesn't have full screen weather animations.

They're all completely dependent on the Sense UI framework as does any HTC app. No developer has managed to get them working on anything but a Sense based ROM.
