Question [Q] <Q> Removing regular email program + regular SMS program entirely? HELP!

Hey knowers.

I'm a total n00b into rooting and changing up stuff on android... my wildfire is my first smart phone so - with the risk of asking foolish questions I'd need to know a few things.

First: I used Android Market to download K9 Mail - and Handcent SMS. - Now I'd like to know if I can somehow make these two my two Primary Programs for Email / SMS - and even remove the original crap somehow? As right now I get an SMS twice - both to Handcent and regular SMS-reader... - and the same w emails - In that dept - I'd veeery much like K9 mail to be my inbox widget too - instead of the original Inbox widget (if that's what it's actually called, that is, what I mean is the fullscreen mailbox you find by changing screens to the left, if that makes sense to anyone..)

I figure these thing might require rooting... but can anyone tell me howto - with or without root. Also would it work with a softroot only?

Please help a n00b.

Thanks
/Pete

I had the same problem, well I wouldn't recommand you to delete the originals, but you can go in their options and desactivate notifications (as handcent & k9 does this by themselves)

That might work for 2 out of 3 issues - where can I find those settings as to turn off those notifications...

But the biggest problem - The email widget? Any clue?

Thx

You know you can just hold on a regular spot on any widget/icon on the home screen till you can move it around...Move it to Remove on the lower bar.

then hold-tap on a blank spot of your wallpaper to add new widget (K9 might offer some widgets, or they might be a mail-widget compatible with)

The settings can be found in each applications : press "menu" when you're in an application => settings/parameters or something, it can even be in a "Plus" button (like "menu => plus button => settings button)

For further modifications you can read the manual / look in every menus, android is a really great OS

But this is no "regular" widget...

I mean the fullpage email thing that comes up if you skip a screen to the left from home screen...THAT - I'd like to show K9 instead of regular... any ideas?

Sms stock app : push "menu" => click on "parameters" => scroll down to "received msg" : notification blehbleh : check / uncheck

Should be the same for mail

For your widget :
MailWidget : Free & K-9 compatible, not using a full homescreen
http://www.appbrain.com/app/ca.sopht.android.mailwidget

Email popup: not quite what you look for, but it's a good addition to MailWidget:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.blntsoft.emailpopup

You could use K-9 for pure messenger too, with pure messenger widget :
http://www.androlib.com/android.appl...nger-zmmq.aspx
It cost 1.49€ but seems to be the best (looking & working) solution

Install the "fast web installer" from app brain, launch it (with the wifi on) then go to appbrain (refresh the page if already on it), clic "install" => it should popup a menu which ask you to confirm, your phone will now automaticly download it and install it

(the syncing method with "AppBrain market" uses the on-phone market, so there's some missing apps for us, wildfire users )

Here's what should happen in video :
