I'm sure for the purposes of the forums people refer to the us model as the vibrant the european model as the i9000 and the canadian vibrant model as i9000m... I read that somewhere in one of the sticky's. Therefore assume he would be talking about the european i9000

The Vibrant isn't exactly the same as the international I9000 (and is, in fact, an SGH T959). However, they are both Galaxy S series phones, and are both GSM. They have far more similarities than differences.

Once CyanogenMod is available for the Vibrant, I have little doubt that it will be ported to the international i9000 and the Captivate, at least.

Cyanogen mod is coming, you can see them talking about it being ported on their forums now, and iirc the dev said that they are working on it.
If you know what you are doing you can even make your own version of it now (mind you its not fully functional and buggy)

There was recently a tweet from one of the main devs working on Cyanogen for Galaxy S saying that his work was only for the Vibrant model... So perhaps international users have to wait longer for a port once the vibrant version is released

Yes, the international/European i9000 is what I was talking about. You won't be able to directly install the Vibrant CM6 ROM, but I don't think it will take much to port it. These phones are very similar indeed.

I imagine that this would be because that particular dev only has a Vibrant to work on, and so that is where he can best do his work for the time being. Since the cyanogen guys have to work across a lot of different phones and don't turn much of a profit, I wouldn't say it is unreasonable to see an individual dev only pick up one SGS varient.

However, the vibrant is DEEPLY similar to the euro SGS, and I can't see why a Vibrant ROM would be so dissimilar to a euro ROM as to require anything more than testing and tweaking.

Basically, don't worry. I bet ya a pound to a penny that they will put out a full set of SGS ROMs rather than doing it piecemeal.
