Default I am new to android with questions about stock vs rooting

Hi, So I got an epic today and was delighted at some of the stock functionality that came with it. There are 2 things inparticular right now that i would really wanna keep after I root the phone. The semi comm manager in the notification drop down and the samsung program monitor which also has a widget.

Now for the samsung program monitor as well as other sprint services can i just .apk them up using android mate than reinstall on a new build?

also what about the 4 communication switches in the notifications bar is it possible to get that on a custom rom?

I am just loving this phone.
Device: Samsung Galaxy Note II
ROM: The one with Android 4.1

rooting does not mess with ur apps, it just provides root access so u can use apps that require root. We are not able to flash custom roms yet on the epic, but once that happens, then it depends if the rom that u use can support those features if they are touchwiz native.

Sorry I meant to say if I root my phone and install a custom rom like CM-6, although even once we can install custom roms i'm definitely gonna wait until 4g is supported on the custom rom. So Ill probably just have to try out a rom that has touchwiz built in, but hopefully not to prevalent.

I see, that sounds like a pretty good idea. I also just found a tutorial for getting rid of the touchwiz launcher so once the 2.2 update is out can try that as well and use the 2.2 stock
launcher.
