Default [Q] Stock Eris Problems-Solved by Root/Custom ROM?

I am contemplating buying a used Eris that is 100% stock. I have been reading about numerous problems with the stock Verizon/HTC 2.1 OTA update. My question is, after rooting and flashing a custom ROM, are the various issues resolved? There are literally too many different issues with the stock 2.1 OTA update to list. I really like the look and feel of the Eris (just had to return my Captivate, the wife is dead set against leaving Verizon for AT&T) and am looking forward to a relatively cheap Android phone on Verizon. Thanks in advance for any advice and/or help.

p.s. I have bookmarked the threads for one-click root, SetCPU, and downloaded xtrSense ROM in preparation.

DONATE TO ME
I do believe a lot of the custom roms dont have issues like 2.1 though some do still have issues (almost impossible to make a perfect rom, even for HTC) 2.2 based Roms work great on the Eris as well

Sent from my HTC Droid Eris with CyanogenTazz 5.0 OC'd 787Mhz.

Kaosfroyo is a great rom. Its very stable and really fast, if you don't mind not having sense.

I've been enjoying KaosFroyo and Nonsensikal. Pretty much bug free. Better battery life than any sense based UI. Slap the DroidX keyboard on that bad boy and you've got one lean, mean, telephoning computing machine.

Sent from my Nonsensikal Froyo Eris of beastly-ness.

Agreed...I can do without the sense. I feel like my battery drained a lot quicker using the stock HTC sense before I rooted. I was contemplating buying an extended battery before I started running KaosFroyo. As long as you mind your wifi/gps/bluetooth when you're not using them, the battery life is pretty decent and the phone runs MUCH faster with an OC'd 2.2 rom. If there are bugs, they are barely noticeable as far as everyday use.

Wow, thanks for all of the suggestions. I will definitely be trying out the ROMs that were suggested here. I do like the appearance of Sense, but if it puts too much of a strain on battery life and CPU power, I don't really need it that much.

Looking forward to getting mine.

My battery lasts all day on Plain Jane 2.0. That's a Sense ROM.

i agree with mr.obvious on that, i really dont think its a sense issue... honestly one of the only things that depicts your battery life is how you treat it when you first get it,that fist charge process means ALOT. if you let it completly drain itsself b4 charging, you should never have a problem getting a full day out of it being a sense rom or what have you..

Good to know. I will keep that in mind, but I am buying a used Eris. If I experience battery issues, I will get a new one and follow your suggestion. Thanks.
