I took the two i5500's I bought for my sisters back to Carphone Warehouse last Monday due to the repeating SMS problem. They gave me two new ones no questions asked. Now both of those new i5500's keep randomly turning off!
I'm glad these phones didnt cost much. I certainly will never be buying a Samsung phone for myself.

Have you installed KIES along with drivers for your samsung? If not that might be the problem why ODIN can't recognise your phone.
P.S. If this is your first time and everything isn't working flawlessly i wouldn't continue

If theyre annoying you that much try getting a different phone. And why did you return them - weve already established that the problem is caused by software rather than the actual phones

Sent from my GT-I5500 using XDA App

10 minutes. It should come up after 10 seconds. Anyway, try following this guide http://igyaan.in/2011/01/diy-how-to-...sung-galaxy-5/
Especially the part about removing battery and sim. I followed it and had no problem

also make sure you run the right version of odin 4.28 else you'll brick your phone.

Its the price youth at the end of the day, £80, the only other Android phone at £80 in CPW is the Alcatel OT980 which looks crap, and doesnt have the best reviews. Plus thier not for me thier for my sisters so if i bought two LG GT540's that'd be an extra £40...I'm not made of money...unfortunately.

We've also established that not every phone has the repeating SMS problem, and not everyone whose bought an i5500 from CPW has had the repeated SMS problem.
So I did what everyone should do when the goods they purchase turn out to be faulty, I took them back for a replacement, hoping that i'd get phones from a batch without the SMS fault, which I did.
Why should I sit back and watch my sisters get messages they first recived on Christmas day, up to 10 times a day sometimes? I'd rather spend 30 mins taking them back for a replacement than spend weeks waiting for a software update that may never come, although I'm sure it will.
It seems the most logical course of action to me given my situation. I'm about to take them back for the second time tomorrow.
