Having trouble with USB Tethering

Ok here is my situation. At work something is messing with 'normal' USB tethering apps. I've tried PDANet and EasyTether. Both drop connection very very frequently (every 10 minutes or less).

What I did with my last phone was install an SSH daemon and then use that as an SSH tunnel/SOCKS proxy. Works perfect.

I bought QuickSSHd and that works fine. However the stock HTC 2.2 doesn't allow me to put the phone in 'tether' mode without paying Spring $30 a month.

So logically next step is to Root it and try some ROM's. I've tried a few and the only one that seems to let me use Android's default/built-in USB tethering is CM6. It's a great ROM but I like the feel of the HTC Sense UI.

So is there anyway to hack HTC's USB Tethering so I can use it? or does anyone know of a work around or even another ROM I could try? Im bashing my head against the wall here, so any help is much appreciated.

if you looks thru the apps and themes section look for caulk's usb tether fix. it is a hack you flash from recovery mode that lets the stock usb tether mode work. and it does work...
pretty sure you have to be on stock 2.2 or 2.2 sense rom as i have never tried it on anything else.
