Question [Q] Flashing SGS with Kies under virtualbox

Anyone have tried to flash his SGS with Kies under a virtual XP (like virtualbox or vmware)

Does it work ? On some forums, i have read you can brick a samsung wave at 99%.
It is the same for SGS ?

Thanks,

Note: i am under Ubuntu

Default how did you connect the USB in VirtualBox?

@irvs:

how did you get odin to recognize the phone? after going into download mode, i try telling virtualbox to attach that usb port (which shows up as "Gadget Serial [021B]"), but it fails with the error "Could not find a USB device with uuid {blah-blah}."

I'm running VB 3.2.10 on Mac OS 10.6.4, trying to connect to a fairly bricklike Samsung Vibrant.

thanks

I have been using VirtualBox 3.2.10 r66523 on a Ubuntu 10.10 host with a WinXP guest. Everything works fine.

When I flash with Odin or just use Kies I manually add the device from the status bar USB Icon.

But ... one thing you need be be careful of is updating with Kies. If the device is going to be switching between modes you should set up USB Device Filters or when Kies drops your phone into Download Mode for an update it will not be connected and the update will fail leaving your phone in Update Mode. If this happens you have to flash with odin and try again.
I'm reckless with my devices. I'm just warning you!
