Default Front facing camera (kind of)

Okay so not exactly. Just couldn't think of a better subject line.

Here is an accessory for the iPhone 3gs that projects a mirrored image of what's in front of the iPhone to the rear camera

Of course my first thought was whether or not it would fit on our captivates. Seems less deadly than the hack I saw awhile back where someone put a Galaxy S replacement front facing camera in their captivate.

link for the captivate/i9000 ffc?? I have only seen it in the Vibrant (which worked really well)

and thats actually not a half bad idea for the mirror thing. I mean really, people don't use the ffc that much anyway, so for the few times u do use it, this would probably work just fine.

There is no Captivate FFC - The i9000 was born with it - just find the product spec page.

I just can't imagine carrying around a mirror accessory just to video chat - if you want a FCC, but a phone that does it.
Samsung Captivate - rooted
iPhone - jailbroken

What are the two boxes next to the speaker on the front of the phone?

Those are specialized thermal osmosis transmission ports for connecting the Captivate to an external flux capacitor, in case your Mr Fusion goes bad.

Yep, just what he said. They also serve as proximity sensors when you put the phone to your ear.

Some people are modding Vibrants (which do not come with a FFC) with the i9000 FFC or the Epic4G FFC.

Also "buy a phone that does it" is hardly a solution seeing as how there are so few out. AT&T only offers one, and it's the iPhone. Sprint has the other two, and obviously are not compatible for the AT&T network. That only leaves the i9000 but buying it straight up is rather costly, whereas T-mo people who do the FFC mod spend $16 (yes, the camera assembly for the i9000 is that cheap).

I'd also be interested in seeing it done for the Captivate.

And light sensor for auto-brightness.

do you know how to read??

I know the i9000 has a ffc, but if you read the original post, he claims someone hacked up a captivate with the i9000 ffc. I simply asked for a link.

Default alright lets straighten this out

Without any proof of concept for a FFC for the captivate i am calling it BS or not possible. We have exhausted this to no end in the Dev. forum in about 6 different threads and there just isnt a spot for the FFC to sit. If you look at the tear town pictures of the captivate v.s. the i9000 you will see that there FFC and back camera have two different mounting spots. Unfortunately for us there is only 1 mounting spot and its taken up by the main camera. to get the FFC in the captivate you would have to buy the part and then tear apart the guts of the wiring and re wire it so it would be able to literally be soldered on the back of the main camera, then hope you were good enough with that soldering gun to get it facing exactly right through the hole you would have had to scratch or dissolve out of the black in the front of you phone.

Like I said I am more than willing to see some proof and be proved wrong but i imagine he is thinking of the Vibrant guys who also have two slots and have successfully gotten a i9000 FFC in their phones!

Done and Done.
