Default [Q] If I want to stay on Eclair...

I wonder what would be the best 2.1 firmware? I have stock jm1 on the phone, would it be good to get some newer firmware like jm8 or jm9? Also is there any big difference, or difference at all between jm8 and jm9?
Well, my phone is working fine at the moment, it has 3bt enabled, but it has lagg problem and lagg fixes not really visibly improve anything. Also GSM reception is BAD, I live in country side and Nokia used to work great as well as Huawei u8220 (my first android device). I dont know if SGSs camera can be fixed by reflashing but the quality of shots is not very good, I would say even "not acceptable" Huawei with 3mp camera was doing outstanding photos, but SGS shots look like those of simple Nokia.
Well, the BIG question is - should I flash? and if YES, to what? I read too many poor reviews of froyo on SGS that I dont want to go there.

I have flashed all the Eclaire firmwares from Europe even though I live in Australia and loved the most recent one. ie. JM9

Smoother, less lag and the updated radio is in this build as well. That would be my suggestion.

Stay..

What i mean with that is you don't seem to have read much about this.
Froyo Jpm/jp6 do work.
The problem people gets when they upgrade is often for they take shortcut. To upgrade to froyo you need to reinstall all apps. Setup the phone again.
You need to clean phone so all settings and file is gone.
Then you get no problem.

But what about lags on froyo aren't those real? I actually want to get rid of them on 2.1 that's why I want to keep away from 2.2 until there's official release.
But thank you for advise to stay, I also kinda think like that otherwise wouldn't start this topic.

Well i don't have lag.
Lag is often for people install all kind of junk and think the phone shall handle it.
Also that they ate lazy and upgrade from 2.1.

But staying on 2.1 for people saying 2.2 lagging is just so funny..

My advice to you is to learn all about flashing.
Then flash to Jpm/jp6.
Se how it work for you.
Then you can install lagfix etc...

Ok, thank you again, will read more and see if jp is a way to go. By the way is there any way to restore apps with all settings from 2.1 to 2.2? I have Titanium backup but read that it is not possible to restore data through this app.
Also there is another question - do you know if I will be able to restore original firmware with nandroid backup after flash (just in case).

Stay on Eclair till a better version of Froyo will come out. The current version of JP6 is laggy. I browse a lot and use Swype and I can tell you it's very annoying when I get hit by a stall very often. Also, using voodoo lag fix. Wiped data/cache after flashing

Don't trust DamianGto. If you trust him, then the majority is lying.. Maybe he started to accept the lags and he is treating them as 'normal'.

He has to answer my post:

- please tell me a solution that fixes the lag in touch wiz application drawer (ca be seen if you have 5-6 pages of apps and slide fast, or pinch to zoom out)
- please provide a solution for fixing the swype lagging input.
- please provide a solution for an efficient memory&cpu wise browser.

If your soulutions is "replace the apps", than no thank you.

Yes, that was original plan - stay on eclair, the first question was is it worthy to change to jm8 or jm9 and if yes what is the difference between those two?

If you do put a backup back when you have upgraded you will get problem. That is what many people do and then complain about lag and other stuff.
My point is that if you shall flash the phone you can check whats working for you and your sgs.
Don't trust what me or other say about lag etc. Its very different on different phones.
I do have a real good sgs that all thing works on. So i don't have problem. So test to flash to froyo and try it out. :)
If you don't like it you can always flash back to 2.1

Did you format the internal sdcard after you flashed?
I don't use voodoo, swype.

I do have tested alot of tweak and different Rom/kernel etc.
I do javelin a setup now that real works. No i don't have lag and many people don't.
But i you read here you always get the feeling that its a mayor problem. Like all other problem. But there is solution on most problem.
But it lazy thing to just blame froyo when thing don't work.
If you read these forum you should know all you problem you did write has a solution.
Seek and you will find.;)

Here is 2 photo for you. I did run 12 program and did use inet browser on the place you wanted. Still no lag and i can swith betwin the program easy.
