Update: I'm now on hboot 2.10 using the RUU through fastboot, but otherwise everything is the same :( if I find a fix I will post as I see several people are having the same issue.

I hate to dig up a buried thread but I'm in need of assistance. I'm trying to root a refurbed Evo that I recently acquired. The hboot is 2.10 and it's still only Android 2.2 and baseband 2.15.00.11.19 HW 0003. I'm running this method to root because it's the one I'm most comfortable with (especially since autoroot 2.5 has been taken down). I running into an error at step 7:

chmod 0755 /data/local/flash_image
./data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
sync

When I input the first line and hit enter I get this message back "Unable to chmod /data/local/flash_image: No such file or directory" I have no idea how to proceed. Any suggestions?
