has anyone found a way to get the phone application to work?

It's not a hardware limitation, right ? Can american customers take the red pill and flash a UK ROM into their device ?

Afaik, it is hardware. Why would they just choose to dissable it?

If it has 3G data, it can make call. End of story.
Someone will just need to hack the software to make this happen.

It can make VoIP calls, but not necessarily voice calls. Voice requires that the audio in/out pins of the 3G chipset are correctly connected to the sound hardware. This is not just a software issue. And the hardware between US and UK version is definitely different, for example different amount of internal flash memory...

So we'll have to take apart a US galaxy tab to know for sure.

I am a bit confused on the various versions of the Galaxy Tab (Euro vs. US) and what will work on US networks.

Anyone have details on this?

i.e., Are Euro Galaxy Tabs the only devices that can make standard cellphone calls on US networks? If so, which US networks? And which version of the Tab can do both standard cellphone calls AND can also do 3G? And on which US carrier can it perform these tasks?

The Euro Galaxy Tab can make voice calls on all GSM cell phone networks. For the US, thats AT&T and T-Mobile. Plus the MVNOs that use their network.
