Default Framework mods (battery indicator) possible?

I see that there now appears to be a way to insert APKs into the /system cache, but might there be a way to substitute a modified framework-res mod? I would tend to this isn't possible, but just thought I'd throw it out there. I'd like to get that circular battery mod up and working, and for that to happen, I would need to compile a new framework.

Well, I tried to substitute some PNGs using Metamorph, and as expected, it wouldn't take.
