Not sure if this helps but when Alcatel does updates they use usb plugged in and power + call button. This boots up into debug mode.

Screen stays black

Looks like we have the upgrading tool now:

Unfortunately I cannot post the link (new user), but just visit the download page on the alcatel's website.

Before flashing, though, I'd like to know whether it is a real update or just the old software already on the phone. Any clue?

takes the ot-980 from 1.6 to 2.1 as far as I know.
Does not work for the OT-981a as it is already on 2.1

I'm new to this, so this may be a stupid comment.

The one touch upgrade tool has a otu.dll that is used to contact sumaster.tctmobile.com on port 30007 in order to download the rom image.

Can someone work some magic and use the otu.dll and snag the rom image or possibly even probe for more? This goes way beyond my scope.

Trying to connect to sumaster.tctmobile.com on port 30007 via Putty configured for Chinese encoding gave me this after about a 15 second delay:

Google Translate doesn't make sense to me. Don't know what to do from there.

It would just be easier to get some one with an older OT-980 to download the update and install it on their phone and just look in the download folder.... lol

I am sure if they were around they would have already posted it.

What about trying to fool the update tool?

If you have UPDATE.APP or UPDATA.APP it's easily extractable.

If there's an easier way, then I'd like to know about it :)

Based on that I imagine it would be possible to add in some of the changes that the G1 recovery images have for our phone.
How were you able to get root on this? I have an 980A with 2.1 update 1 on it and would like to have root access for the wireless tether app. I don't expect to get much ROM support for it but it would be nice though.
