Default Screen sharing to laptop possible?

I'm tryin to set up my macbook as a media receiver so i can stream videos from my phone to the screen on my laptop but i've been unsuccessful. laptops are set up for media serving out of the box now a days. i dont have a dnla tv or anything. nor is my xbox wifi. i've used it on a friends ps3 but was unable to use the beam option as my phone didnt read his ps3. his ps3 read my phone and he just d/l the movie onto his ps3.

i'm just wondering if any1 is or has an idea to stream video to a laptop from a phone.

Well, AFAIK, it's all in the software. On a PC at least, you need to have some sort of media player running and in the foreground. For instance, Windows Media Player and XBMC are DLNA-aware apps. I'm not familiar with what media players have such clients built in on the OSX platform.

Out of curiosity, I just tried this. It works fine. Music, Pictures, and videos work perfect. I'm using windows 7 ultimate. Media share found my laptop right away.
