Default Camera Performance?

So I have read in a few places that the camera on the DVP isn't so hot.
Can anyone that has one comment on this?
Thanks!

It's a DVP vs HD7 thread, but OP has samples from DVP. Some people also stated the DVP camera is OK during daylight shots, its in low light environments when it starts to perform poorly.

I can back this up. With enough light, the DVP does very well. Where there is low or little light the shutter speed is way too slow to make anything come into focus.

WP7 in general, or DVP issue, the auto white balance/iso settings are pretty garbage and need to be optimized to ever be used properly. The only decent pictures I have gotten have been with all auto settings disabled.

only thing that has me a little worried about the DVP is this...

youtube.com/watch?v=FMhM3InAzwc

apparently the camera quality kinda sucks unless in direct sunlight.

Yea, this is what I suspected.
Now the question is whether it is a software issue or a much larger hardware issue.
I have a TP2 now, which doesn't have a flash but takes pretty good pics.
Although this is not a dealbreaker, it is just another chink in the big picture as I have been waffling between G2 and the DVP.

Thumbs down Epic fail!

After some time with the VP, I can honestly say this is the most awful 'cell phone' camera I have seen.

Yesterday I tried to take a picture of the IMEI number on the Vibrant. look at the difference... between VP and the G2.

I tried a lot of things with the VP but still nothing. I have no hope for this camera. Also However steady you hold it (even some 3 sec after the shot) you always end with a blurry unusable picture.

The only pic you can ever take is of landscape in bright sunlight.Attachment 445085

If you are not a 'compulsive' early adapter [like me ] then G2 is million times better... It's not even a close fight.

My exp with android was a few weeks with G1 and a few weeks with myTouch3G. I hated it, I always thought like they tired too hard to be like iPhone but didn't have that finesse.

Then a month back got the G2 after liking the Android on my HD2. and I'm in love. I like the whole widget approach, I like it that all that I need is on the home screens (not unlike what WM7 promises but it's not there yet). Go to the G2 forum and check the home page screen shots... no two android phone will look alike.

And there so many 'tweaking' possibility.

I checked the EXIF information of the pics taken with Venue Pro posted in this thread. Interestingly, the reported camera name wasn't branded as coming from a Dell Venue Pro (unlike the Samsung Focus which reports Camera: Samsung SGH-I917). I guess Dell forgot to change that EXIF field.

Instead we have Camera: OmniVision OV5642. This is the same sensor used in the iPhone 4's rear camera. I don't know how good the iPhone 4's camera is, but I guess this means that hardware-wise we should expect the same performance from the Venue Pro. Hopefully the current problems can still be fixed by Dell whether its software-related or just build quality issues.

Interesting observation. It also makes you wonder how they could *** it up so big time.

Can anyone confirm that the camera does in fact take blurry low light pictures? Can this be fixed with an update or is it a hardware issue?
